1、 Morphological characteristics
Okra is an annual herb of Okra in Malvaceae. It can grow to 1-2 meters high. Its stem is cylindrical and has thorns on it. The leaves are palmate, generally 3-7-lobed, and there are hard hairs on both sides. Its flowers are solitary between leaf axils, the pedicel is 1-2 cm long, and there are 8-10 bracts, mostly linear. The flowers are yellow, the innermost is purple, the diameter is between 5-7 cm, and the petals are obovate.
2、 Growth habit
Okra itself likes warmth and is afraid of severe cold, but it has good heat resistance. It usually grows well in the environment of 25-30 ℃. If the average temperature is lower than 17 ℃, it will affect its flowering and fruiting. Plants can adapt to a wide range of soil, and it is more suitable to grow in places with deep soil layer, loose and fertile soil and good drainage. In addition, good lighting and ventilation are also important.
3、 Curing method
During the growth period, okra should maintain high humidity, especially in summer. It must provide sufficient water. It is usually watered before 9 a.m. or after sunset in the afternoon. It is easy to hurt its roots under high temperature. If sufficient base fertilizer is applied to the plant, it is OK to apply topdressing appropriately at ordinary times, but do not apply nitrogen fertilizer. The seedling fertilizer shall be applied once at the time of emergence, and urea shall be selected as the fertilizer. After planting, the seedling fertilizer shall be applied once, and the compound fertilizer shall be used as the fertilizer. It shall be applied again at the flowering and fruiting stage.
4、 How to reproduce
Okra is usually propagated by sowing. The sowing time is mostly in spring. First soak the seeds in water for one day, take them out, wrap them with wet cloth and put them in a warm place to promote germination. After sowing, take out 3-4 weak seedlings and keep them in the hole. After sowing, take out the weak seedlings and keep them for sprouting. Water once a week, and apply fertilizer once when it grows to 50 cm high.
