1、 When does it open
Epiphyllum blooms only once a year, and its flowering period is between June and October. If it blooms from June to August, it usually opens from 9:00 to 10:00 in the evening and withers from 3:00 to 4:00 in the morning. If it blooms from September to October, the opening time can be advanced to 8 o'clock, which will also last until 3 or 4 o'clock in the morning, and it can open for 8-9 hours.
2、 What does flowering look like
Epiphyllum is usually solitary and grows on the small nest on the side of the branch. Its flowers are funnel-shaped, with a diameter of 10-12 cm, and can emit a very fragrant smell. Its receptacle is green with triangular scales. Sepals are greenish white or light amber, linear in shape. Petals white, mostly obovate, with a length of about 7-10 cm.
3、 How to promote flower growth
1. Increase light: Although Epiphyllum blooms at night, insufficient light during the day will affect its flower bud differentiation and is not conducive to photosynthesis and nutrient storage. Therefore, it should be placed in the sunny place to make it fully exposed to light.
2. Supplementary fertilizer: Epiphyllum prefers fertilizer. If the soil nutrient is insufficient, it will not bloom. It is usually necessary to apply sufficient base fertilizer when planting and changing pots, and apply rotten cake fertilizer and water every half a month during its growth period.
3. Proper pruning: if Epiphyllum grows too high, the demand for nutrients will increase, and it is not easy to blossom. At this time, it is necessary to prune the plant, which can not only reduce nutrient consumption, but also increase ventilation and light transmission, so as to create favorable conditions for plant flowering.
