1、 Morphological characteristics

1. Tree: ginkgo tree is a deciduous tree with longitudinal cracks in bark, grayish brown color and rough surface. The crown is conical, but will gradually become broadly oval. The branches are whorled, and the color of the long branches is light brown yellow, but it will turn gray. There are leaf marks on the short branches and long branches grow on them.

2. Leaves: the leaves of ginkgo tree are fan-shaped, with long petioles, light green color and hairless surface. Generally, the leaves on young trees and sprouting branches have deep cracks, and sometimes the lobes will split again. The leaves are spiral on the long branches and clustered on the short branches. In autumn, it will turn yellow.

3. Flowers: as gymnosperms, ginkgo trees do not have real flowers, but have ball flowers. The ball flower is dioecious, the male ball flower is drooping, the arrangement of stamens is relatively loose, and there is a short stem on it. The pedicel of female bulb is long and bifurcated, and there is an ovule seat at the top, on which ovules grow.

4. Seed: the ovule of ginkgo tree will develop, which is called seed. The seed is oval or ovoid, with a length of 2.5-3.5 cm. The seed coat is fleshy, yellow or orange after maturity, with white powder on it. The endotesta is membranous and light reddish brown in color.

2、 Growth habit

Ginkgo tree is a light loving tree species. It has a wide adaptability to climate and soil. It can grow in both high-temperature and rainy areas and cold areas in winter, but it grows slowly. It likes warm and humid climate and grows well in places with deep soil, fertile soil and good drainage.

3、 Ginkgo price

The price of ginkgo tree has two influencing factors, one is the shape of the tree, and the other is the thickness of the trunk. For the same 15 cm seedling, each tree with good tree shape can be sold for 700-1000 yuan, and the common tree shape can only be sold for about 300-400 yuan. Similarly, as an area occupying tree with poor tree shape, the one with DBH of 15cm can be sold for 290 yuan and the one with DBH of 20cm can be sold for 680 yuan.
