How to Make a Plant Pot Liner
If you’re looking for a way to protect the inside of your plant pots and extend their lifespan without breaking the bank, consider making your own plant pot liner. With just a few simple materials and a little bit of elbow grease, you can create a customized liner that fits perfectly into your plant pot and keeps your plants happy and healthy. Here’s how to get started:
Materials
Before you start making your plant pot liner, you’ll need to gather a few materials:
A roll of unbleached coffee filter paper or landscaping fabric
A plant pot
A pencil or pen
A pair of scissors
A ruler or measuring tape
A stapler
Instructions
Once you have your materials, follow these simple steps to create your plant pot liner:
Place your plant pot on top of the coffee filter paper or landscaping fabric.
Use your pencil or pen to trace the shape of the bottom of the pot onto the paper or fabric. Make sure to leave a few extra inches around the edges.
Cut out the traced circle using your scissors.
Take your ruler or measuring tape and measure the height of the pot from the bottom to the lip.
Add an inch or two to the height measurement to account for the excess material that will fold over the edges of the pot.
Cut out a strip of paper or fabric that is the height of the pot plus the extra inch or two and the length of the circumference of the pot.
Staple one end of the strip to the circle you cut out in step 3, about an inch from the edge of the circle.
Wrap the strip around the pot, making sure it’s centered and creasing the edge of the strip at each end to mark where to staple it to the circle.
Staple the other end of the strip to the circle, overlapping the first staple by about an inch.
Trim any excess fabric or paper from around the edges of the pot liner.
Place the liner inside your pot and add soil and plants as usual!
And that’s it! With these simple steps, you can create a customized, reusable plant pot liner that will protect your pots from water damage and extend the lifespan of your plants. Plus, by using unbleached coffee filter paper or landscaping fabric, you’re choosing an eco-friendly option that’s biodegradable and won’t harm the environment. Give it a try on your next planting project and see the difference it makes!
