Because the succulent roots of Paeonia lactiflora underground are very frost resistant, even in Northeast China, they can survive the winter safely, and they can germinate again next spring

If it is a potted peony, it should be noted that the peony must not stay in the heating room in winter, otherwise the flower buds of the peony will not bloom in the second year without low-temperature vernalization during the winter. The potted peony must be stored at 2 ℃ for 1-2 months without watering during low-temperature storage, so that the peony can bloom normally after vernalization

There are only two reasons why the peony sprouts in winter. One is that the maintenance temperature is too high during the winter. We should find ways to reduce the temperature to make the peony spring dormant smoothly, and then sprout when the flowers bloom in the coming spring. Second, it is too early to split in autumn. The temperature after splitting is too high, which makes peony sprout. The most suitable time for peony splitting is from early September to late October. If the plant is divided too early, the peony sprouts and is unearthed that year, it is easy to be frostbitten. If the plant is divided too late, the peony cannot germinate new roots, which will reduce the overwintering ability of the plant and be easy to freeze to death
