How to Root a Jade Plant in Water

Jade plants (Crassula ovata) are easy to care for succulents native to South Africa. These plants are popular for their green, glossy leaves and tree-like growth habit. If you want to propagate your jade plant, one easy method is to root it in water. Here's how to do it:

Step 1: Select a healthy stem cutting

To start rooting your jade plant in water, you will need to select a healthy stem cutting. Look for a stem that is at least 3 inches long and has a few leaves. Make sure to use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears to avoid damaging the stem.

Step 2: Remove the leaves from the bottom

Remove the leaves from the bottom 1-2 inches of the stem cutting. You can do this by gently pulling the leaves downwards, or by using a sharp blade to cut them off. This will help your jade plant cuttings root faster.

Step 3: Prepare a container with water

Choose a container that is large enough to hold the stem cutting and fill it with clean water. You can use tap water, but it's best to let it sit for a few hours to allow any chlorine to dissipate. Make sure the water covers at least an inch or two of the stem.
