1、 Planting techniques of watermelon

1. Selection of planting land: it is best to choose sandy soil with deep soil layer, loose and fertile soil, good drainage performance and convenient irrigation

2. Land preparation and fertilization: after the planting land is selected, the field needs to be trimmed before sowing, and the base fertilizer dominated by high-quality organic fertilizer and cake fertilizer and supplemented by inorganic fertilizer is applied. It is necessary to excavate the ditch around the field and waist, and improve the drainage system

3. Planting: in the afternoon of the day before sowing, the melon field needs to be watered. When sowing, the distance between seeds should be controlled, not too thin or too dense

4. Pruning and vine pressing: generally, three vine pruning method is adopted. Do not prune in rainy days to prevent infection. When the vine is about 50cm long, you can press the vine with soil once every 3-4 knots, and press each vine 2-3 times

5. Topdressing: when the young melon grows to the size of an egg, the expanded melon fertilizer needs to be applied in time according to the plant growth

6. Water: in the seedling stage, the water demand is low. Try to water less or no water, so that the seedlings can form developed roots. Control the watering amount before flowering and fruit setting to prevent crazy growth; After fruit setting, it is necessary to ensure sufficient water supply, which helps to expand the fruit and increase the weight

2、 When will watermelon be planted

The planting time is determined according to the early or late maturing watermelon varieties. Early maturing watermelon can be sown from mid December of last year to march of next year, and the fruit ripening period is about March to June. Medium ripe watermelon can be planted from April to June, and the fruit period is about July to September. Autumn watermelon needs to be sown in the middle and late July, and can be harvested around late September
