1. The origin of the two
They both belong to Ranunculaceae and Paeonia, so they are bound to have many similarities, and it is even easy to make people confused. In fact, there is no difference between the two ancient plants. Later, the terms "wood peony" and "grass peony" appeared. After that, "wood peony" became what we now call peony; "Herbaceous peony" is what we now think of as peony. There are records about them in compendium of Materia Medica p>
2. Main differences
(1) The former is a kind of herbaceous plant with perennial roots and tubers. The latter is a woody plant, specifically deciduous shrubs p>
(2) Their stems are also different. The stem of the first plant is herbaceous. In a certain season, after falling leaves, its aboveground part will die. The stem of the second plant is woody. After falling leaves, the parts on the ground can remain immortal p>
(3) Their leaves are also different. The leaves of the former are narrow and thick green on both sides. The leaves of the latter are relatively wide, with green on the front and slightly yellow on the reverse p>
(4) Their flowers are also different. The flower diameter of the former is about 15 cm, while that of the latter is about 15 cm p>
(5) Their flowering periods are also different. The former is in late spring and early summer, while the latter is around March, that is, early spring p>
