How to Make a Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter

Materials Needed

5-gallon bucket with lid

Plumbing drain elbow

Tomato seedling

Potting soil

Start by drilling a small hole in the bottom of the bucket for drainage. This will prevent water from accumulating and causing root rot.

Next, remove the lid and cut a small hole in the center. The hole should be just large enough for the plumbing drain elbow to fit through.

Insert the drain elbow into the hole in the lid. Make sure it fits snugly and won’t fall out.

Fill the bucket with potting soil up to the level of the drain elbow.

Gently remove the tomato seedling from its container, and loosen the roots before placing it through the bottom of the bucket and into the soil. Make sure the stem is straight and the roots are spread out.

Add more soil to the bucket, filling it to just below the rim.

Replace the lid, and hang the planter from a strong hook with twine or chain. Choose a sunny spot for your tomato plant to grow.
