How to Make a Paper Plant Pot

Step 1: Choose the Right Paper

The paper you use for your plant pots should be sturdy enough to hold its shape but also thin enough to biodegrade easily. Newspaper or recycled paper is a great choice for this project. Steer clear of glossy or coated paper, as it won't biodegrade as easily.

Step 2: Cut the Paper to Size

Start by cutting your paper into the right size for your plant. A good rule of thumb is to make the paper pot about as tall as it is wide. If you're using newspaper, you can cut it into rectangular strips that are about 6 inches wide and 12 inches long.

Step 3: Fold the Paper

Once you've cut your paper, fold it in half lengthwise. Then, fold it in half again, but this time widthwise. You should end up with a rectangular shape that is folded into quarters.

Step 4: Shape the Pot

To shape the pot, hold the folded paper so that the crease is at the bottom and the open end is at the top. Fold the top corners of the paper down to the crease, so that you have two triangular flaps. Then, fold those flaps down, tucking them inside the pot to create a smooth edge.

To seal the edges of your paper pot, run a line of glue along the outside of the folded edge. Press the folded edge down firmly to seal the pot closed. Make sure the glue is dry before you add soil and your plant.
