How to Make a Makeshift Planting Pot
If you're looking to start a garden or grow some plants but don't want to spend a lot of money on expensive pots, you'll be happy to know that you can easily make your own planting pots using materials you probably already have at home. Here's how to make a makeshift planting pot:
Step 1: Gather Your Materials
To make a makeshift planting pot, you will need the following materials:
A plastic container or bottle (e.g. a yogurt or milk container, soda bottle, etc.)
A pair of scissors
A marker or pen
A drill or hammer and nail (optional)
Step 2: Prepare Your Container
Clean and dry your plastic container thoroughly. If you're using a bottle, remove the label and cap. If you're using a larger container, such as a milk carton, cut it down to size using the scissors.
Step 3: Mark and Cut Your Container
Using your marker or pen, mark the area where you want to make the opening for your plant. For small plants or seedlings, you can use the entire container. For larger plants, you may want to cut a larger opening. Next, use your scissors to carefully cut along the marked line.
Step 4: Make Drainage Holes (Optional)
If you plan to use your makeshift pot as a permanent home for your plant, you'll want to make some drainage holes to allow excess water to escape. You can either use a drill to make small holes or a hammer and nail to make larger ones.
Step 5: Add Soil and Plant Your Seedlings
Fill your container with soil, leaving about an inch of space at the top. Place your seedlings or seeds in the soil and cover with a bit more soil. Water your plant and place it in a sunny spot.
And there you have it - a simple and inexpensive way to make your own planting pots using materials you already have at home. Happy planting!
