1、 Grafting time
The grafting time of Zanthoxylum bungeanum is related to region and temperature. It is usually selected in its peak growth season, when the wound can heal faster and ensure survival. In the north, the time of branch grafting is usually from March to April and bud grafting is from August to September. In Southwest China, the direct time is in March and budding is in June p>
2、 Grafting process
1. Selection of Rootstocks: for the rootstocks grafted with Zanthoxylum bungeanum, trees with similar families and genera should be selected, so that their affinity is higher, which is conducive to survival and growth. In addition to this rootstock, you can also choose medlar, stinky pepper and monkey head pepper as rootstocks p>
2. Scion treatment: scion treatment is different with different sizes of rootstocks. If the rootstock is large, the bottom of the scion needs to be cut into a wedge. If the rootstock is small, cut the bottom of the scion obliquely, leaving an inclined plane of 2-3cm p>
3. Grafting: one month before grafting, remove all the prickles and leaves about 10 cm from the rootstock. When preparing for grafting, saw the rootstock 10 cm high. If the rootstock is thick, cut it straight from the middle of the section, insert the bottom of the scion into it, and tie it tightly. If the rootstock is thin, it can be cut at the junction of cortex and xylem, and then the scion can be inserted into it p>
4. Follow up maintenance: wrap the wound after grafting to prevent infection with bacteria. Then make a fat chase to help it recover. If they are planted in the ground, they should also be weeded properly to reduce their consumption of nutrients p>
