How to Water House Plants During Vacation

Going on vacation is always exciting, but worrying about leaving your houseplants alone can be stressful. Whether you’re going away for a weekend or an extended period of time, there are ways to make sure your plants get the water they need while you’re gone.

Tip #1: Group Plants Together

One simple way to keep your houseplants hydrated while you’re away is to group them together. This creates a mini greenhouse effect, where the plants help create a more humid environment. Make sure the grouping is in a spot with enough natural light, and give them a good watering before you leave to ensure they have enough to last.

Tip #2: Use a Self Watering System

Another option is to use a self-watering system. These systems range from simple mechanisms that you can buy at a garden center to more complex setups that you can create yourself. A basic self-watering system consists of a reservoir of water that sits above the soil level and a wick that draws water down to the roots. Before you go on vacation, fill the reservoir with water so the plants can drink as needed while you’re away.
