Abdominal connection
Using Rhododendron as rootstock and grafting Rhododendron can achieve the purpose of fast growth and early flowering p>
Use 2-3-year-old robust purple Rhododendron or hairy white Rhododendron as rootstock. Cut the smooth part 6-10cm away from the upper end of the rootstock base obliquely with a grafting knife (about 1cm long and 1 / 3 deep into the xylem) p>
At the same time, select the annual twigs that have been lignified or semi lignified with vigorous growth as cuttings, remove the lower leaves and leave 3-4 top leaves p>
Each top leaf shall be shortened by 1 / 3 or 1 / 2, and then the base of the scion shall be cut into a wedge and embedded into the interface of the rootstock. The formation layer shall be aligned and firmly bound with plastic film. Then cover all the grafted parts and scions with plastic bags, tie both ends with wires, place them in the semi shade, carry out daily maintenance and management, and do not apply fertilizer temporarily p>
About one month later, it was seen through the plastic bag that the scion had grown new leaves, indicating that the grafting had survived. After 3-4 years of new leaves grow, remove the plastic bag on a cloudy day p>
At ordinary times, pay attention to watering or spraying water on the ground, and cut off part of the branches of the cuckoo at the upper end of the interface. After keeping warm in winter, the next spring, some scions grow branches again. At this time, all rootstocks and branches are removed, and a valuable Western azalea is formed. If properly maintained, it can be revived in early summer, pregnant buds after autumn and bloom the next year p>
Twig splitting method
In May, choose 2-3-year-old (older trees can also be used) hairy leaf Rhododendron, such as Maobai and Huanglian, as rootstocks. Select the vigorous and robust top twigs on the mother plant, remove some leaves, cut off the terminal buds with a grafting knife or razor blade, and then cut directly in the middle of the xylem at the top of the branch, with a depth of about 1.5cm p>
At the same time, select the robust twigs of the annual famous species of Western Rhododendron as the scion, cut the base into a wedge of 1-1.5cm, insert it into the split part on the twigs of Rhododendron, align it with the cambium, tie the joint part tightly with a 0.2mm wide thin plastic belt, put on a plastic bag, and bind the mouth, but leave a little gap to make it ventilated, and then put it in the semi shade, and pay attention to maintenance at ordinary times p>
After about 2 months, if the scion grows well and the leaf surface is shiny, it is the performance of cutting. At this time, the plastic bag can be removed and observed for 1-2 days. If the scion is wilted, the plastic bag must still be covered and removed after a period of time. As long as you pay attention to maintenance, new buds will sprout in the autumn of that year after grafting in May. As for the removal of plastic bags and straps, it can be carried out from March to April of the next year p>
