Sowing and propagation
Epiphyllum will bear many seeds after flowering. If there are seeds, they can be sown and propagated p>
Soak the Epiphyllum seeds in water and plant them when the shell is soft. The soil should be kept moist. Generally, it can germinate about 2-3 weeks after sowing p>
Sowing propagation is often used in cross breeding. However, due to the slow growth of sowing propagation Epiphyllum, it takes 4-5 years from sowing to flowering, so it is often propagated by cutting p>
Cutting propagation
Cutting propagation is best from March to May. If there are greenhouse conditions, it can be carried out all year round p>
When cutting, it is necessary to select robust and thick leafy stems as cuttings. Generally, it is better to select old leaves that are more than 2 years old. The leaves cannot be too small or too tender. The too tender branches are easy to rot or shrink after cutting. The old leaves will not grow new leaves, so new growth points will be formed and the roots will grow well p>
After selecting the leaves, select the length of about 20 cm-30 cm, cut the leafy stem according to 2-3 sections, and flatten the base, which can make the wound larger and increase the cutting surface p>
Place the cut leafy stems in a cool and ventilated place for half a day to a day. After the cutting mouth is slightly dry, insert them into a clean sand bed. When cutting, you can "shallow cutting" and "oblique cutting", and do not cut them too deep as possible p>
The soil for cutting should be drained smoothly and loose, which is convenient for rooting, and should be disinfected in advance. The soil must be watered to keep it moist. Then put it in a cool place indoors and don't move much p>
When the cutting Epiphyllum is kept at 18-24 C at room temperature, it can take root for about 3 weeks, and put it into the pot when the root is 3-4 cm long p>
Generally, Epiphyllum is cutted with main stem, which can see flowers in that year, and it takes 2-3 years to bloom with side stem p>
