Why not overwrite

In order to promote germination, many people will cover the seeds with a layer of wet paper towel or a layer of soil after planting. However, some small grass and flower seeds cannot be covered at all. Once covered, they will not sprout

Which seeds cannot be covered

For example, Petunia, Mantianxing, Platycodon grandiflorum, liubeili, wind chime grass and other grass flowers, the seeds are very small and need to see light for germination, so they can't be covered when sowing

In addition, the pill seeds can not be covered. What is pill? That is, several small seeds are wrapped with a piece of medicine powder, which is called pill. The pill seeds are still smaller than sesame seeds

Note: be careful when buying seeds. Don't buy fake seeds. Seeds like sixfold profit and Mantianxing are too small to pinch. They are similar to dust. All large seeds are fake

Sowing method (taking Petunia as an example)

1. Preparation: put loose, fertile and slightly acidic sandy soil with good drainage into the seedling basin

2. Sowing: directly sprinkle the seeds on the soil surface, water them, keep them completely wet, and put them on the ventilated windowsill

3. Sprout and grow roots: you can sprout in about a week. After sprouting, spray water every day to maintain ventilation and astigmatism. White roots can grow in about 20 days

4. False planting: the seedlings are small and cannot be planted directly in a large basin. False planting can greatly improve the survival rate. Move the seedlings together with the soil into a small flowerpot or disposable paper cup, pour water through, ventilate and maintain, see more light every day, and spray water in the morning and evening

5. Colonization: when the leaves of the seedlings are full at the mouth of the cup, they can be colonized. The flowerpot is more than 20cm, and the soil can be mixed with garden soil, perlite and coal

Tear the paper cup directly, plant the soil and seedlings into the prepared basin soil, and put it in the shade for 1 ~ 2 days after planting, and then put it on the balcony with sufficient light, often picking the heart

6. Maintenance: in the early stage, thin nitrogen fertilizer and water shall be applied every 10 days, and potassium dihydrogen phosphate shall be applied before flowering. Pay attention to thin fertilizer and frequent application

Seed soaking and germination

Some flowers have thick seeds, long dormancy period and are not easy to germinate. They need to be soaked before sowing, such as lavender, sage, water spinach and so on

Soak the seeds in warm water for 12 hours, and then soak them in gibberellin at 20 ~ 50ppm for 2 hours

Sowing method (take Lavender as an example)

1. Put the loose and breathable nutrient soil into a small basin, fill it until it is 8 minutes full, pour it into water, and then sprinkle seeds

2. There is no need to cover the soil after sowing, but you can cover a layer of film for moisturizing. Poke a few holes on the film for ventilation, and it will germinate in about 2 weeks

3. Water should be sprayed frequently during the seedling stage, and the light should be gradually increased. The fertilization is mainly nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer. When the small seedlings grow to about 10cm, they can be transplanted and planted

These grasses and flowers are slightly covered with soil, with high germination rate and good survival

Like geranium, corydalis and other grass flowers, the seeds are slightly larger and do not need light for germination. A little coverage during sowing can improve the germination rate

Sowing method

1. Prepare loose and fertile garden soil. After watering, sprinkle seeds, and then cover it with a layer of soil. Water it every day to keep it moist, and sprout in about 10 days

2. After two leaves emerge from the seedlings, move the flowerpot to the sun, appropriately increase the amount of watering and maintain ventilation

3. When the leaves in the small pot are full, they can be transplanted into the large pot, during which a little thin nitrogen fertilizer can be applied

4. During the maintenance process, pick the heart and trim it at any time, and it can bloom into large flower balls in 3 ~ 4 months
