Seed acquisition
Unlike most plants, pitcher plants are dioecious, with pistils and stamens not growing on the same plant. This means that if you want to get its seeds, you must have both male and female plants p>
In the wild, pitcher is pollinated by flies, while indoors, tools such as a brush can be used to transfer pollen from stamens to pistils. This requires us to be able to distinguish between male and female plants. The lower part of the calyx of the female flower is swollen, while the male plant has stamens with pollen on the top p>
After the pistil is successfully fertilized and the pod matures, the seeds can be harvested p>
Its seeds are very slender, with a length of about 1cm and a width of only 1mm. The seed is very light and easy to be blown away by the wind. When collecting the seed, be careful not to let it be blown away or break the seed p>
In addition, special attention should be paid to the fact that its seeds are not resistant to preservation and need to be sown in time after obtaining them p>
Sowing method
The seed germination of pitcher needs a damp but not wet environment. Generally, the living water moss is chopped up and used as the substrate. Take the lowland pitcher as an example:
first sprinkled seeds evenly on the surface of live moss, and then sprayed with pure water to increase air moisture content. Then cover it with a plastic bag to maintain air humidity p>
Put it in a warm and bright place and wait for the seeds to germinate. To adjust the bearing of the room where it is located, it can be about 26 ℃, the light can not be too strong, and there can be bright scattered light p>
At ordinary times, we should pay attention to the observation of seeds and not make them moldy. Generally speaking, as long as the seeds are fresh enough, they will not go moldy. But if it is still moldy, you can spray it with pure water to promote germination p>
The germination time of seeds varies according to specific varieties, ranging from 1 month to 1 year. If the seed cannot germinate after a long time, it may indicate that your seed has been inactivated p>
Precautions
Planting pitcher grass with seeds is a challenging work, because many factors will play a great role in seed germination, from the quality of seeds to environmental conditions. This requires us to handle every detail carefully and strive to be comprehensive, so as to cultivate it p>
