How to Plant Potatoes in a Pot

Step 1: Choose the Right Pot

The first step to planting potatoes in a pot is to choose the right container. The pot should be at least 12-16 inches deep, with a diameter of at least 16 inches. The pot should also have drainage holes at the bottom to allow excess water to drain out. Plastic or ceramic pots are good options as they retain moisture well.

Step 2: Prepare the Potting Mix

Potatoes need well-draining soil that is rich in nutrients. You can either buy pre-made potting mix or make your own by mixing equal parts of garden soil, compost, and perlite or vermiculite. Fill the pot with the potting mix, leaving about 1-2 inches of space at the top.
