Choosing the Right Pot

The first step is to select a pot that is big enough for your lettuce. A pot with a diameter of at least 12 inches is recommended. You should also choose a pot that has drainage holes to prevent water from accumulating in the bottom of the pot.

Preparing the Soil

Next, you need to prepare the soil. Leaf lettuce requires rich, well-draining soil. You can buy potting soil from a garden center or make your own by mixing equal parts of compost, peat moss, and perlite. Fill your pot with the soil mixture until it is about 1 inch from the top of the pot.

Planting the Seeds or Seedlings
