How to Plant Chamomile in a Pot
Chamomile is a great herb to grow in a pot. Not only does it have a pleasant aroma and beautiful white and yellow flowers, it is also easy to grow and has many medicinal benefits. Here’s how to plant chamomile in a pot:
Choose the Right Pot and Soil
The pot you choose should be at least 12 inches in diameter and have good drainage holes. Chamomile prefers well-drained soil, so choose a potting mix that is light and fluffy. You can also mix in some sand or perlite to help with drainage. Be sure to leave enough space at the top of the pot for watering.
Plant the Chamomile Seeds
Fill the pot with the potting mix and water it thoroughly. Scatter the chamomile seeds over the soil and cover them lightly with more soil. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged, and in a place that gets plenty of sunlight. Chamomile needs at least six hours of direct sunlight a day.
Watering and Fertilizing
Chamomile needs regular watering, but be careful not to overwater. Check the soil daily and water when the top inch feels dry. Fertilize the chamomile once a month with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Be sure to follow the directions on the fertilizer package.
Pest Control
Chamomile is generally pest-free, but occasionally aphids or other pests may attack. If pests are present, spray the chamomile with a solution of soap and water. Be sure to spray the undersides of the leaves, where pests often hide.
Harvesting and Using Chamomile
Chamomile flowers can be harvested when they are fully open, usually in early to mid-summer. Simply snip off the flower heads and dry them in a warm, dry place. Once dry, the flowers can be stored in an airtight container for later use.
Chamomile is a versatile herb that can be used in teas, skin care products, and more. It has natural anti-inflammatory and calming properties, making it a great herb for relaxation and stress relief.
With these simple steps, you can easily plant chamomile in a pot and enjoy its many benefits. Happy gardening!
