How to Pour Water into ZZ Plant
ZZ plant is one of the most popular houseplants due to its long-lasting and low-maintenance characteristics. However, proper watering is still necessary to keep it healthy and thriving. In this article, we will discuss how to properly pour water into your ZZ plant.
1. Understand ZZ plant's water needs
ZZ plant is a succulent plant that can store water in its rhizomes and leaves. These adaptations allow it to survive in arid environments, but also mean that overwatering can be detrimental. As a general rule, ZZ plants do not need frequent watering, and it's better to underwater than to overwater them.
2. Water only when the soil is dry
Before watering your ZZ plant, the first thing you should check is the soil moisture. Insert your finger about an inch deep into the soil. If it feels dry, it's time to water your plant. If the soil is still moist, wait a few more days before watering again. Remember that ZZ plants prefer slightly dry soil to wet soil.
3. Choose the right watering method
There are two common ways to water your ZZ plant: from the top and from the bottom. Top watering means pouring water directly onto the soil surface until it comes out from the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot. Bottom watering means filling a saucer or tray with water and allowing the plant to absorb the water from the bottom.
The choice of watering method is up to you, but we recommend bottom watering as it allows the plant to absorb water at its own pace and prevents overwatering. However, if you choose to top water, make sure to pour slowly and evenly to avoid pooling or waterlogging the soil.
4. Use room temperature water
ZZ plants prefer lukewarm or room temperature water rather than cold or hot water. Water that is too cold or too hot can shock the plant and damage its roots. Let the water sit out at room temperature for a few hours before watering your ZZ plant.
5. Avoid using tap water
Tap water may contain chlorine, fluoride, or other chemicals that can harm your ZZ plant over time. It's best to use filtered or distilled water if possible. If you must use tap water, let it sit out for 24 hours to allow the chlorine to dissipate before watering your plant.
By following these simple tips and tricks, you can ensure that your ZZ plant has the right amount of water to thrive and grow. Remember, less is often more when it comes to watering your ZZ plant.
